PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (WINK)—Charlotte County Parks and Natural Resources will conduct a prescribed burn at Prairie Creek Preserve on Sept. 3.
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services says prescribed fire is used to reduce hazardous fuel buildups, thus providing increased protection to people, their homes and the forest.
It says other uses include disease control in young pines, wildlife habitat improvement, range management, preservation of endangered plant and animal species and the maintenance of fire-dependent ecosystems.
The preserve will be closed to the public for the full day. Prairie Creek Preserve is located at 1900 Duncan Road in Punta Gorda.
