Estero residents seek answers on Broadway Avenue West improvement project

Residents along Broadway Avenue West in Estero are looking for answers about a $15 million infrastructure project designed to improve road safety and reduce flooding, with a meeting scheduled to address their concerns. Kathleen McDermott, who has lived on Broadway Avenue West for years, said she is excited about the potential safety upgrades. "Oh, I'd be thrilled. I think the road needs to be wider. There's that swale on the left side as you're leaving Broadway is kind of, you're right on the edge of the road, it's kind of scary. So to widen the road a little bit would be better for me," McDermott said. She added that she hopes the meeting will provide clarity for residents. "We are very interested in the project for widening Broadway, improving the drainage, and seeing what they're going to do with the water sewer project that's planned. I know they were waiting for FEMA money, so I'm just curious to see what the plan is, exactly how they're going to do this project, how long it will take," McDermott said. The Village of Estero was awarded a Public Facilities and Critical Infrastructure Program grant of over $15 million for the project, which aims to enhance road safety and reduce flooding. The project will run 1.6 miles on Broadway Avenue West from Armada Court to US-41. Other residents, who spoke off camera, expressed concerns about how the project might affect their trees and driveways that extend to the road. The project manager’s public information consultant has not yet responded to requests for details about what will be updated ahead of the meeting.
