An email scam is posing as Cape Coral’s planning department, and city officials are urging residents and contractors to be cautious. According to the City of Cape Coral, the email appears to come from the "City of Cape Coral Planning and Zoning Commission" and uses the subject line to reference an "application approval," sending the email from a non-government address. Officials advised that the scams use free domains such as "@usa.com" to appear official and that similar fraudulent activity has been reported targeting other municipalities across the country. The city noted that residents should avoid clicking any links or downloading attachments in suspicious emails and verify sender addresses carefully. Legitimate city departments will not send messages from "USA.com" domains, and residents should contact the city directly and not use any contact information provided in the suspicious emails, officials said.
