NAPLES, Fla. — At 11 years old, Kingsley Germinord is already 6-foot-4, making the Naples Bears tight end hard to miss on a youth football field.
Germinord, a sixth grader playing up with the Bears’ 12U team, recently went viral on Instagram after a video showed him running through opposing defenders.
Asked what it is like being 6-foot-4 at his age, Germinord had a simple answer.
“I don’t really think about it that much,” Germinord said.
Playing up a year has also given him a different challenge.
“Now I go against more competition,” Germinord said.
His size gives quarterback Owen Freeman an obvious target.
“Normally, the players are not six-four,” Freeman said. “So, it’s a really easy target, and I could see him down the field really easily.”
Head coach Nate Freeman said Germinord came to the program from the Immokalee area about two years ago and was still developing when he arrived.
“He was kind of green when he started, but I’ll tell you what, man, he puts in the work outside the field,” Freeman said. “You could tell this year he’s took the next step.”
Freeman described Germinord as reserved and quiet, though he said the viral attention has brought him out of his shell. His message has been to stay humble and keep working.
Germinord credited the people around him.
“I had great coaches, a great team,” he said.
He said his long-term goal is to attend a good university and eventually play professionally.
Asked what message he had for anyone at the next level already watching him, Germinord kept it simple:
“Come recruit me.”
