Trisha Johnson and her family faced an emotional day in court as the driver responsible for the crash that killed her daughter, Jaciey Hogan, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Friday. "It was, it was a long, long, long haul. But, you know, I couldn't have made it this far without the community," Johnson said. After more than a year of waiting, Johnson said justice for her daughter has finally been served. "It's important that we preserve our lives, you know, and give the police a break from peeling and scraping bodies off the pavement," she said. Johnson hopes her daughter's death serves as a warning to other drivers about the dangers of speeding. Jaciey Hogan was a passenger in Issac Sales' car when he crashed into an SUV on Gladiolus Drive last year while driving 40 mph over the speed limit. The crash occurred as they were heading to school that morning. The other driver involved in the crash, Dylan Parsons, was also in court. He described the lasting impact the crash has had on his life. "I broke my back, my hip, my leg, ribs, spleen. I mean, there was a lot of injuries. It practically cost me almost every dime that I had. And I'm getting nothing out of it," Parsons said. The state attorney recommended a 13-year sentence for Sales, but the judge ultimately sentenced him to 15 years in prison. Sales also spoke in court, apologizing to Johnson and others affected by the crash. "I'm truly sorry for the pain, that I hurt so much that I caused the community. I will continue to forever ask the Lord for forgiveness, not just for myself but for the people that I hurt, so that we may have eternal peace," Sales said. In addition to his prison sentence, Sales will have his driver's license permanently revoked.
