A wetter pattern continues for Southwest Florida

SOUTHWEST FLORIDA (WINK) — WINK News Weather Authority meteorologists are tracking a little more rain this Tuesday with the threat for heavy rainfall continuing the rest of the week.

Tuesday

A stray shower is possible this Tuesday morning, with temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s. A few coastal storms (20% coverage) will develop around midday before increasing in coverage. Scattered storms (60% coverage) are more likely throughout the afternoon and evening. Southwest Florida is under a threat for heavy rainfall so plan for soaking storms. Highs climb into the lower 90s.

Wednesday

A few coastal showers and storms (20% coverage) are possible Wednesday morning, with temperatures in the upper 70s to lower 80s. A wetter pattern continues Wednesday with scattered storms (60% coverage) developing throughout the afternoon and evening. Some areas could get quite the soaking with all of Southwest Florida under a risk for heavy rainfall. Highs top out in the lower 90s.

Thursday

Stray coastal showers cannot be ruled out (20% coverage) Thursday morning with temperatures in the 70s. Plan for more scattered storms (60% coverage) Thursday afternoon and evening with heavy rain, gusty winds and frequent lightning.  Highs top out in the lower 90s.

Tropics

Tropical Storm Edouard

As of 5 AM, Tropical Storm Edouard has become better organized and the National Hurricane Center says additional strengthening is possible before it reaches the northwest Gulf later today. Edouard has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph and is moving west-northwest at about 7 mph. The current forecast brings Edouard onshore neat Galveston, Texas before moving inland across eastern Texas Tuesday night. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect along portions of the Texas and Louisiana coasts. Heavy rain and flooding will also be a major concern from the Upper Texas coast into parts of Louisiana and eastern Texas through Wednesday. This system poses no risk for Southwest Florida.
