On Saturday afternoon, officers with the Marco Island Police Department responded to the Publix on South Barfield Drive for a report of a child locked inside a vehicle. Officers learned that a 2-year-old had been safely placed in the vehicle while the parents loaded groceries. As they were loading the vehicle, it locked with the child, keys and phone still inside. The parents immediately called for help, and officers were able to break the window and safely remove the child. MIPD says that one officer sustained minor injuries on the scene and was treated.
