FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — A 59-year-old Fort Myers man died after being struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross U.S. 41 near Judd Road.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened at 8:52 p.m. Friday night on southbound U.S. 41 as a 17-year-old Cape Coral woman was driving in the outside lane. According to the FHP press release, the pedestrian was attempting to cross the southbound lanes directly in front of the approaching vehicle.
The vehicle collided with the pedestrian. The man sustained critical injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The 17-year-old driver was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
