East Naples man says stray bullet hits his house through the backyard

A Collier County resident says a stray bullet struck the glass door of his home along Cayman Drive, narrowly missing him and his family. “I heard a very loud bang. My dog shot up,” Dan Harty said. “When I came out, I saw the bullet hole. I went to my daughter's door because it's aligned with it." Harty said the shattered glass door, which is now cracking from the bottom up, could shatter at any moment. “It was still going off rounds. You know, I don't know if this guy is a good shot. Obviously not,” Harty said. Harty said he immediately checked on his daughter and dog inside the home before calling deputies. “They told me that since nobody was hurt and this was not intentional, they can't do anything with it. They'll just give me a police report, and then it's on me. They also told me they won't give me any information about whoever shot this. So, it's been aggravating,” Harty said. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has been contacted for their account of the response. “I could be making dinner for my family and, you know, something tragic happens. We could be sitting watching TV. Tragedy happens also, like, now, when this comes down, I have a puppy, and I have a two-year-old,” Harty said.
