Two men arrested for street racing at 105 mph on Daniels Parkway, FHP says

Troopers arrested two men accused of street racing at speeds of up to 105 mph on Daniels Parkway near Timber Creek Drive in Lee County early Sunday morning. Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Sunel Lopez Garcia and Abel Sanchez Gonzalez were initially clocked at 84 mph before slowing down to 50 mph, driving side by side, and then accelerating to triple-digit speeds. Jim Foresman, a Fort Myers resident, shared his concerns about the issue. "I don't think they're patrolling enough and arresting enough of them," Foresman said. Tyler Lambert, another Fort Myers resident, commented on the dangers of speeding. "Honestly, I can't tell you what goes through other people's heads, but people just need to realize, you know, it's not safe," Lambert said. Troopers eventually caught up with the drivers and arrested them. Photos of their impounded cars were provided by authorities. Lambert highlighted the risks associated with speeding. "Going fast is fun, but there's a penalty for it. You know, there's always someone's life at risk, whether it's yours or a family of five. You know, all you see is all crashes killing innocent families. It's not good," Lambert said. He also suggested stricter consequences for such actions. "I mean, it should be jail time. Nobody wants to go to jail, but it's never going to stop; I feel like no matter what it is," Lambert said. Foresman added, "I'd like to see more police presence, but, yeah, it's a problem." Under Florida's super speeder law, anyone caught driving 50 mph over the speed limit or reaching triple-digit speeds will be arrested.
