The Collier County Sheriff's Office announced it will remove 72 license plate readers from state roads in the county after the Florida Department of Transportation ordered limits on the devices' use. Additionally, CCSO said that every deputy with access to the plate readers will now be required to undergo training on how to use them appropriately. Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said there was one incident involving a repeated license plate search that opened an investigation. Currently, Collier County has 127 license plate readers, and officials are working to determine how many cameras will remain in use.
