Construction begins on Coconut Road in Estero with new roundabout and other updates

Construction has begun on Coconut Road in Estero on Tuesday, with updates including a new roundabout on Walden Center Drive, streetlights, landscaping, and irrigation systems, all scheduled to be completed in six months. Philip Boucher, a member of the Elks Lodge, shared his thoughts on the changes. “To see something going on is good. Myself, I'm not fond of roundabouts, but it'll help. It'll be better than what we have now. Rush hour is pretty bad here on this road,” Boucher said. The construction has led to detours and cones being placed along the road, affecting local commuters. Lola Flores, who works near Coconut Road, expressed her frustrations about the impact on her daily commute. “It's already frustrating enough having to go through all this traffic already on 41 and having to deal now with multiple semi trucks, concrete, whatever the case may be blocking the only way I know to get to work. I have to now take different routes,” Flores said. Flores also commented on other construction projects in the area, such as Woodfield’s Phase 1 development, which is bringing new apartments and commercial spaces. “It just makes it harder for Florida natives who've already been here for a long time, and new construction that's being built for people out of state,” Flores said. Woodfield Construction is currently working on Phase 1 of its project, but further details have not yet been provided.
