A Lehigh Acres man was arrested on Tuesday after he was accused of driving the wrong way on Cemetery Road in Buckingham and trying to escape a patrol car. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Alex Gabriel Rivera Rodriguez, 32, was accused of driving a sedan west in the eastbound lanes to try to pass other vehicles at 6:25 a.m. Troopers said a traffic stop was conducted and the tag on the sedan reportedly was not assigned or registered. Rivera Rodriguez was arrested and accused of reckless driving and a tag violation. FHP said he was accused of resisting, but he was placed in the back of the patrol car. However, the right rear window of the car was down for the trooper to talk to Rivera Rodriguez through Google Translate, and he was accused of trying to escape through the window while in handcuffs, according to troopers. He reportedly got his upper body out but was stopped and put back inside before being taken to the Lee County Jail. Rivera Rodriguez is facing charges of failing to register a motor vehicle, reckless driving, attempted escape, resisting an officer without violence and attaching an unassigned license plate to a vehicle.
