Cape Coral man convicted on 20 counts of possessing child sexual abuse material

A Cape Coral man was convicted of possessing child sexual abuse material. According to Attorney General James Uthmeier in a news release on Tuesday, Eduardo Antonio Arango Ruiz, 70, was convicted on 20 counts of possession, control or intentional viewing of child sexual abuse material. The news release stated the investigation started in July 2025 after the Lake County Sheriff's Office identified a user on a file-sharing network making the material available for download and it was traced to Arango Ruiz's home. On Aug. 12, 2025, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, with assistance from the Cape Coral Police Department, executed a warrant at the home and seized multiple computers and digital storage devices, according to the release. Files of child sexual abuse material were confirmed by forensic examination. Arango Ruiz was arrested on Aug. 18, 2025, on 10 counts. He was charged with 20 counts. Each count was enhanced to a second-degree felony because he possessed 10 or more images of child pornography, according to the release. Arango Ruiz was found guilty on all counts by a jury after an hour of deliberation, and sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 5. His lowest possible sentence is 35 years, and he faces up to 300 years in the Florida Department of Corrections, the release states.
