Man accused of prowling near Cape Coral home, told homeowners he was there to 'pick someone up'

A man accused of loitering and prowling near a home was arrested by officers with the Cape Coral Police Department after the owners of the home say they noticed him on their Ring camera. According to an arrest report, officers received a call on Sept. 3 in reference to a suspicious person standing at the front door of a home on the 1700 block of Southeast 40th Terrace. The homeowner, who was out of state, told officers that he began speaking with the man via the camera. The man told the homeowner that he was there to "pick someone up." The homeowner told officers that he did not know the man, that no one was living in the home at the time of the incident, and that the man was not asked to come by the home. When officers arrived, they found a man matching the description that the homeowner provided walking down the road near the home. The report says that the man tried to hide behind bushes when he spotted the officers. The man, later identified as Casey Knight, 30, was detained. Knight reportedly admitted to officers that he had left a plastic bag inside of the lanai of the residence, proving to officers that he was there. Knight was arrested and faces a loitering and prowling charge.
