Cape Coral man shot by police after officers say he pointed gun at them

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK)— Police say a man was shot by Cape Coral police officers after he pointed a gun at them during a confrontation behind a business.

In a press conference, Police Chief Anthony Sizemore said officers responded to a disturbance call at 4:45 p.m. at a home on Northeast 10th Terrace. Neighbors and family members inside the home reported a man with a gun and knife had kicked down the door. A verbal altercation took place before the suspect fled the scene.

Officers began searching for the suspect in the area of Northeast 15th Place and 9th Terrace.

The suspect was found hiding beside a dumpster behind City Mattress. He emerged from a bush next to the dumpster, pulled a gun and pointed it at law enforcement.

Two Cape Coral police officers fired their weapons and struck the suspect, Daniel Eric Colone. Officers detained him and provided medical aid before he was transported to Gulf Coast Medical Center.
