PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (WINK)—WINK Listens got to work and got results for a Port Charlotte woman who says she sent back more than $200 worth of weight-loss products but couldn't get her money back for months.
Stella Gann says she bought three bottles of weight-loss pills from CartPanda but returned them after they didn't work and asked for a refund. She says she waited months and eventually hired an attorney.
"So they finally decided to send me a check because I told them don't send it through the credit card. Send me a check. Yeah. So they sent me a check and like I said, the first one bounced," Gann said.
Gann says a second check arrived two weeks later. That one bounced too.
When asked what the bank was saying about the bounced checks, Gann explained they cited insufficient funds. "They're saying insufficient funds, and they're taking it back out of my checking account again, and I'm saying what?" Gann said.
In an email, CartPanda wrote it acknowledges Gann is owed the $207 refund. The company added that both checks were issued through third-party check services and "Although the checks were returned with an 'insufficient funds' notation, our subsequent investigation confirmed that the underlying issue was a technical incompatibility... rather than a lack of funds in Cartpanda's account."
Gann isn't the only consumer raising concerns. The Better Business Bureau gives CartPanda an F-rating and lists more than 1,100 complaints in the last three years.
The BBB also says it identified a pattern of complaints involving refunds, charges and customer service. "If I knew this was going to happen, I would have never ordered," Gann said.
When asked what kind of toll this has taken on her, Gann described the stress. "Oh, stress, stress. I'm, I'm just, you know, I'm afraid to order anything on the on the internet anymore because I'm afraid they're gonna, you know, do this again to me. So I've been staying away," Gann said.
CartPanda said it has also identified six refund cases affected by the same third-party check issue. The company says it has changed its process and is monitoring Gann's new refund until it clears.
The good news is it did clear. Gann told WINK News thank you after she finally got her refund.
