Today starts off with plenty of sunshine, with plenty of warmth and humidity in play.
Much of the area should stay dry through the morning, with just a 20% chance of rain in a few coastal spots after 10 AM. By around 1 PM, the atmosphere starts getting busy, with showers and thunderstorms developing along and east of I-75. Most of the scattered storm activity should stay east of the interstate today, although a few showers and thunderstorms could still pop up along the coast.
Winds will be mainly southerly, helping to pump plenty of Gulf moisture into the region. Storms should gradually fizzle out around sunset, although a few lingering showers or thunderstorms could drift back toward the coast later tonight.
Sunday looks pretty similar. We’ll start with mostly sunny skies and only a low chance of rain during the morning, followed by another round of scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
The workweek kicks off with more of the same: afternoon scattered storms and temperatures in the low 90s each day. In other words, summer isn’t ready to give up the spotlight just yet!
For those heading out on the water today, keep an eye out for thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon. Outside of stormy weather, conditions should remain favorable, with Gulf waves around 1–2 feet and southeast to southwest winds around 5–10 knots.
And finally, there’s some interesting news in the tropics. The National Hurricane Center has no areas of concern expected to develop over the next seven days. That means we’ve officially set a new record for the latest-forming first hurricane of the season — assuming we even get one at all!
For now, the tropics are quiet, the afternoon storms are doing the heavy lifting.
