Timing matters on this stormy Sunday

SUNDAY OUTLOOK

The day starts off stormy offshore and dry and muggy on , with a few stray showers possible late this morning after 10 a.m. By midday, scattered storms will begin popping along the coast, then gradually push east of I-75 through the afternoon.

We’re looking at about 70% storm coverage today, with highs climbing into the low 90s. So, hot, humid, and definitely a day to keep the umbrella handy.

MONDAY

The workweek starts off on a familiar note. The morning commute looks mostly dry, but scattered storms will build in by the evening commute. Temperatures stay steady, with highs again in the low 90s.

TUESDAY AND BEYOND

Looking ahead to Tuesday, slightly drier air could move in thanks to a late-season plume of Saharan dust. That could help cut down on storm coverage a bit, but afternoon storms will still be possible each day.

IN THE TROPICS

In the central subtropical Atlantic, there’s an area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms associated with a trough of low pressure. Right now, it’s battling hostile upper-level winds, but conditions could become a little more favorable for development later this week.

The good news: this system is not a threat to the United States.

BOATERS

Boaters, keep a close eye on Doppler 3X Radar, especially as storms develop this afternoon. Winds will be out of the southeast, becoming westerly at 5–10 knots, with Gulf wave heights around 1–2 feet.

Bottom line: another hot, humid, stormy day across SWFL, with the best chance for storms arriving from midday into the afternoon.
