Cape Coral child in stable condition following drowning call

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — Authorities responded to a possible drowning at a Cape Coral home on Sunday.

The Cape Coral Police Department said a child is in stable condition following the drowning call.

The child was pulled from the water at a home near Hancock Bridge Parkway and NE 8th Place. WINK News spoke with neighbors who saw the large police and fire response and knew something was wrong.

"My first thought was, with all the cop cars, it had maybe been domestic violence. I wasn't sure, but I knew it had to be something bad for the amount of cop cars," said Yvonne Torres, who lives next door.

Torres said there were two fire trucks, an ambulance and six to eight police cars lined up along the road. As she watched first responders moving toward the water, she started to realize what may have happened, especially with so many children usually playing around the neighborhood and near the canal.

"I figured it had to be something to do with the water after because I noticed there was cops coming. They kept going back and then forth, back and forth. So I figured it had to be something to do with the water. I thought maybe someone drowned," Torres said.
