Lee County deputies recover woman's body from submerged construction equipment

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. (WINK) — A woman is dead after heavy equipment went underwater at a construction site in Lehigh Acres.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office is investigating what happened in the 21000 block of State Road 82, where crews found heavy equipment submerged in water.

Fire crews confirmed someone was inside the vehicle when it went under. The Lee County Sheriff's Office said the woman's body has since been recovered.

It is unclear how long the equipment had been underwater before crews arrived.

The Mine Safety and Health Administration is also on scene and conducting its own investigation.
