Barge crane knocks down power lines in Cape Coral, leaving homes without power

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — A barge with a crane struck power lines over a canal, leaving more than 170 homes without electricity.

The incident happened in the 3900 block of Southwest 1st Place near Southwest 2nd Avenue and Southwest 40th Street. The crane on the barge hit the wires as it traveled across the canal, knocking the power lines down.

Cape Coral Fire Department responded to the scene. According to the LCEC outage map, 173 customers in the area were without power as of 10:00 AM.

Cape Coral Fire Department confirmed no one was injured in the incident.
