Lee County commissioners approved $5.7 million at Tuesday's commission meeting to restore the Mullock Creek boat ramp. "This is a great day for Lee County. This Mullock Creek boat ramp project is only the second boat ramp that Lee County has been able to acquire and have the chance to rebuild in the last 20 years," said Lee County Commissioner David Mulicka, District 3. Mulicka said the marina's old facilities were demolished after Hurricane Ian caused damage. Funding from the BP oil spill settlement will allow for recreational boating, fishing, and paddling at Mullock Creek. "What we did was we demolished all the old facilities that were there because they were pretty antiquated and beat up after the hurricane. Ian, so it was, it was kind of unsafe conditions right now to stay open, but it allowed us to get a good deal on the property and to have this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire something with beautiful public saltwater boating access," said Mulicka. The initial concept plan for the boat ramp includes parking, a paddlecraft launch, and restrooms. Adjustments could be made during the design phase. "We are one of the greatest boating communities in all of the state of Florida. And Lee County ranks among the highest number of voters in all of Florida. So to have more public access to enjoy the waters with your family and friends is really a privilege," Mulicka said. In December 2025, the county acquired approximately 5.21 acres of the former Mullock Creek Marina site. Commissioners will also be asking the state for nearly $4 million to cover the remaining costs for the marina.
