Man accused of brass knuckles attack after threatening victim during bus ride in Collier County

A man was arrested in Collier County on Friday after being accused of punching someone while wearing brass knuckles. According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies spoke with a victim on July 1. The victim told deputies he works in Naples and routinely travels to work by using the LeeTran route after boarding from a bus stop each morning. The victim told deputies that on June 11 at around 8 a.m., while riding the bus to work, a man started making threatening gestures towards him, including striking his open palm with a closed fist and mimicking a curb-stomping motion, the report said. Shortly after the threats were made, the victim got off the bus. The man then approached the victim and punched him in the face while wearing white brass knuckles on both hands, according to the report. The victim immediately moved away from the suspect and attempted to fend off the suspect by kicking toward him. The victim then noticed he was bleeding and later experienced facial pain, headaches, and drowsiness after returning home, the report said. The incident was not the first encounter the victim had had with the suspect, according to the report. The victim told deputies his previous encounters with the suspect on the bus all included the suspect offering him illegal drugs or alcohol, which the victim declined. Deputies provided the victim with a photo lineup, and the victim was able to positively identify Edgar Velasquez-Lopez, 21, as the man who attacked him, the report said. Months later, on September 11, deputies arrested Velasquez-Lopez. He faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
