FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. (WINK) — Fort Myers Beach Town Council candidate and current council member John McLean has officially withdrawn from the race, according to the Lee County Elections Office.
Lee County Elections Communications Director Gaby Aguirre confirmed McLean’s withdrawal and said his name will still appear on the Nov. 3 ballot because the withdrawal came after ballots were prepared.
Votes cast for McLean will still be tallied but will not count, according to the elections office.
Lee County Elections said it will notify vote-by-mail voters of McLean’s withdrawal and post notices at early voting locations and Fort Myers Beach Election Day polling places.
The elections office’s public notice lists McLean as having withdrawn Sept. 15 and similarly states that votes for withdrawn candidates who remain on the ballot will be tallied but will not count.
McLean currently serves on the Fort Myers Beach Town Council in Seat 4. His term was scheduled for election this year, according to Lee County Elections.
The Nov. 3 Fort Myers Beach municipal election includes three Town Council seats and is conducted by the Lee County Supervisor of Elections.
