Fort Myers city officials host public meeting for multimillion-dollar Midtown project

Midtown Fort Myers is undergoing a multimillion-dollar improvement project, and city officials are holding a public meeting Thursday to provide updates and answer questions. The first phase of the project, costing nearly $30 million, has already started. It focuses on upgrading water, sewer, and stormwater systems. The area included in this phase spans Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Broadway Avenue, Victoria Avenue, and Central Avenue. City officials said the improvements will also include rebuilding streets and sidewalks, adding new lighting, landscaping, street furniture, and signage. They said the goal is to create a safer, more walkable area that can support future development. New residential projects are already taking shape in Midtown, and city officials emphasized the importance of upgrading the area’s aging systems to avoid hindering growth. The public meeting will give residents a chance to ask questions, view renderings, and learn more about what Midtown Fort Myers will look like in the years ahead. It will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon at the Collaboratory.
