Sanibel police officers remove 500 feet of illegal netting from ocean, free trapped wildlife

Two Sanibel police officers got their hands dirty on Wednesday, removing 500 feet of illegal netting from the ocean. According to the Sanibel Police Department, officers Sutton and Royka responded to reports of illegal netting located off West Gulf Drive. A manatee, fish, sharks and stingrays were stuck in the netting, SPD said. Both officers successfully removed the netting and released the wildlife safely. The Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation assisted in the operation.
