A Cape Coral man was arrested after officers with the Cape Coral Police department say he caused a crash and immediately drove away from the scene while intoxicated. An arrest report says that officers responded to a home on Southwest 6th Avenue on Sept. 10 in response to a hit-and-run crash that had occurred earlier at the parking lot of the Walmart on Pine Island Road. The victims told officers that a driver in a black Dodge Ram backed into their vehicle in the parking lot and drove away from the scene. The victims also said that the suspect was driving away at a high speed. Officers attempted to locate the owner of the registered Dodge truck, Scott Logan Lambert, 48, at his home but he was not there, the report says. CCPD says that they later found the Dodge truck traveling down the road on Southwest 6th Avenue and conducted a traffic stop. Officers identified the driver as Lambert. There was visible damage to Lambert's vehicle, and officers say they saw signs of impairment. Lambert reportedly refused any field sobriety tests, and officers say they noticed a strong scent of alcohol on his breath. Lambert was arrested and taken into custody, where he reportedly refused to submit a breathalyzer sample to officers. Lambert faces charges of hit and run, DUI, DUI with damage to property, and refusal to submit to DUI testing.
