Man caught after stabbing near Main Street in downtown Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — A man was arrested following a stabbing in downtown Fort Myers late Thursday night.

Fort Myers Police Officer Cohen was flagged down by a bystander around 11:52 p.m. who reported a man had been stabbed near Main Street.

Officer Cohen found the victim suffering from serious lacerations and provided medical aid until Lee County EMS arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment.

Officers worked quickly to locate the suspect. With assistance from the department's Intelligence Unit, officers tracked the suspect's movements as he fled the area.

Within minutes, Officer Smith located and detained a man matching the suspect's description near Crawford Street and Cleveland Avenue. The man was later identified as Marcel Dumel Jr., 41.

Dumel was arrested for Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and transported to the Lee County Jail.
