Port Charlotte man accused of performing contracting work without license, collecting over $90K

A Port Charlotte man is accused of performing unlicensed contracting work at a home and leaving the work unfinished. According to court records, the victims told deputies with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office that they were referred to this contractor, Vasiliy Knodratyuk, 36, by the contractor who installed their windows. In 2025, Knodratyuk was reportedly scheduled to do extensive exterior work and interior work to the house, totaling over $90,000 in costs. The victims paid $90,800 via check to Knodratyuk's company, according to records. After the payments had been issued, Knodratyuk returned to the victim's home to complete work on their outdoor staircase. They questioned him about a permit for the work to ensure that it had been issued. Knodratyuk reportedly could not answer that and left the job site with the work incomplete, according to CCSO. In Feb. 2026, the victims filed a complaint with the Charlotte County Community Development Department. The department reportedly found that Knodratyuk was acting in the capacity of a contractor without the required carpentry license. The victims told deputies that there was incomplete work throughout their home, and that they believe about $25,000 worth of work is still left to be done. Knodratyuk was arrested on Monday and faces a charge of impersonating a contractor during a state of emergency, as, at the time of his alleged crime, Florida was still in a state of emergency for Hurricanes Milton and Helene.
