Fort Myers city manager retiring after 43 years in public service

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — Fort Myers City Manager Marty Lawing announced he plans to retire.

In an email, Lawing confirmed he notified Fort Myers Mayor Kevin Anderson and city councilmembers that he plans to retire in December. According to Lawing, he has served in city and county manager roles for 43 years across three states.

In the email, Lawing said in part, "It has been a professionally rewarding but demanding career and it is now time to focus on personal interests and family priorities in the Carolinas. I have enjoyed the positive and professional relationships with the City Council and the department directors."

He went on to say, "Together we have made significant progress on many fronts and I am confident that the city will continue on a positive trajectory."

Lawing said his last day will be Dec. 9.
