Legacy Harbour Marina in Fort Myers reopens nearly 4 years after Hurricane Ian

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — Legacy Harbour Marina is welcoming boaters back with its docks now reopened, marking a fresh start nearly four years after Hurricane Ian.

The marina finished its final inspections, and there are already some reservations made. It's the beginning of a new era, years in the making.

Construction for the marina began in early 2025 and was originally expected to open in spring of this year. Regardless of setbacks, they are ready to bring back what once brought life to downtown Fort Myers.

Spanning 13 acres along the Caloosahatchee River with 131 boat slips available, a restaurant set to open in December, an amenities lounge and more, the marina is ready to go back to what it once was, but better. It's built with more pilings surrounding the marina and breakwaters stronger than before, an effort to prevent the tragedy that happened nearly four years ago from repeating.

"The docks floated off the concrete piles, and all the boats in here were either on land or half sunk, except for nine, and we got them cleaned up," said Eric Ravenschlag, marina director.

"We first went with salvage, getting all the boats out of here, then destruction, tearing down some buildings on the property, and then finally cleaning up the bottom of the basin here, and finally construction," Ravenschlag said.

The marina's director said the grand opening will be sometime in October, and he's hoping the slips will start filling up soon.
