Police say man caught at Cape Coral store faces 29 counts of child exploitation in Louisiana

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — A Fort Myers man wanted on severe juvenile exploitation charges out of Louisiana was arrested in Cape Coral following a collaborative law enforcement effort, according to a Cape Coral Police Department.

The operation began when a Cape Coral Police Department FBI Task Force Officer was contacted by the FBI New Orleans Field Office regarding the whereabouts of Timothy Dalton Barnes, 31, of Fort Myers. Barnes was actively wanted on an outstanding, full-extradition warrant issued out of Louisiana, according to police.

Following the intelligence share, CCPD's Special Investigations Unit and Patrol Division were mobilized to locate Barnes. On Sept. 22, officers made contact with Barnes at a retail location at 1619 Del Prado Boulevard South in Cape Coral, according to police.

CCPD verified Barnes's identification and confirmed the active full-extradition arrest warrant from the Louisiana State Police. The warrant details 27 counts of production of child sexual abuse material under the age of 13, one count of computer-aided solicitation of a minor and one count of indecent behavior with juveniles, according to police.

Barnes was transported to the Lee County Jail, where he remains held pending extradition to Louisiana, according to police. The Cape Coral Police Department extended its gratitude to the FBI New Orleans Field Office, the local FBI Task Force and the Louisiana State Police for their partnership in bringing Barnes to justice.
