CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WINK) — The 'no fishing' signs in Jaycee Park have left some neighbors in Cape Coral unhappy.
A place used by anglers when the old park existed is no longer an option.
City officials say the signs were posted in July.
The decision to close the area to fishing is because of the location of the new boardwalk.
They're concerned about the safety hazards posed by casting hooks, lures, and weights.
Tino Garcia visits Jaycee Park often with his wife and he is in favor of the decision the city has made.
"The city's reasoning is very sound, you go to other places. So you, if you go down to Jay Stones, down by Burnt Store, you see that people litter with the fish lines, they drop the line, and you see manatees get caught in the line, and so they the city has, you know, sound reasoning for not wanting the fishing here,” said Tino Garcia.
A Facebook post about the sign has more than 100 comments with mixed reviews.
